Abstract
In 2005, Helsinki Design Week was established in conjunction with Finland's Design Year. In 2012, Helsinki was named the "World Design Capital," and Helsinki Design Week gained widespread attention as a result. Today, Helsinki Design Week has become a significant event in multiple fields, including children's design education, sustainable design, urban planning, and cross-disciplinary innovation. Every year, Helsinki Design Week hosts over 250 exhibitions, lectures, and workshops related to design and creative industries, attracting designers and creative professionals from around the world, making it one of Finland's most influential and well-known design festivals.
One of Helsinki Design Week's most prominent features is its emphasis on sustainable development, future design exploration, promotion of design education, and advancement of urban culture. It emphasizes design's social responsibility and its role in society, highlighting the relationship between design and social development. Additionally, Children's Design Week is one of Helsinki Design Week's distinctive features. Through various activities, including workshops, competitions, and exhibitions, it nurtures young people's innovative abilities, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, promoting social progress and development.
Helsinki Design Week's activities are not limited to exhibitions and forums but also regard the urban space as a platform for participation and interaction. It enables the public to gain a deeper understanding of design and participate in the design process. Moreover, Helsinki Design Week thrives in harmony with urban culture. Through its platform, it promotes urban culture and becomes a part of it. Helsinki Design Week integrates design practices into public spaces, streets, and squares, enriching the city's cultural connotations, promoting economic development, and providing locals and tourists with more cultural, artistic, and entertainment options.
