Abstract
The Beijing Design Week was first held in 2009 during the Beijing World Design Congress. As the capital's design week, it is entrusted with the mission of following the strategy and serving the people. As a design week with a relatively long history of development in China, it bears the pressure of social and economic benefits. The goal of the Beijing Design Week is to enhance its ability to serve the development of the capital, accelerate the construction of a world-renowned design city, promote excellent Chinese design, embody cultural self-confidence, highlight international characteristics, establish a cooperation network and communication platform, focus on academic and professional construction, enhance public welfare attributes, and advocate the concept of "design for people's livelihood," constantly improving public participation and sense of acquisition.
In recent years, the Beijing Design Week has established a digital cultural and creative platform based on historical and cultural resources. It has utilized design as a tool to promote various forms of consumer vitality, from "collective" to "individual," and advocated sustainable development by focusing on "small things in daily life." Additionally, the Beijing Design Week has focused on the city's "special action of relieving, rectifying, and improving" efforts and has continuously carried out the organic renewal of urban communities. It has used areas such as Shichahai, White Pagoda Temple, Dashilan, Fayuan Temple, Tianqiao, Xihai 48 Park, Guangyang Valley, and others as major updated display areas, covering various forms of activities such as exhibitions, forums, experiential activities, creative markets, and pop-up stores. The Beijing Design Week has conducted a series of activities around street governance, green regeneration, the application for UNESCO World Heritage Site status of the central axis, community co-construction, and art intervention in alleyways, highlighting the value and significance of design in creating a better life.
