Urban Regeneration Driven by Design
以设计为动力的城市再生

Abstract

As a former automotive industry city in Italy, Turin has undergone a remarkable transformation from an industrial decline to a vibrant creative hub. The catalyst for this transformation has been design, which has emerged as a powerful force in driving sustainable development, urban regeneration, and social inclusivity in the city. In 2008, Turin became the first city designated as a "World Design Capital" by the World Design Organization (WDO), and in 2014, it was included in the "UCCN City of Design".

Turin has implemented numerous strategic initiatives to integrate design into its urban planning and development. A key focus has been on leveraging design to protect and effectively utilize industrial heritage. By converting historical buildings into cultural centers and public spaces, Turin has provided greater convenience to its residents while also preserving its rich historical legacy. Moreover, Turin has harnessed the power of the creative industries to actively promote urban tourism. This has not only stimulated the local economy, but also established Turin as a famous tourist destination in Italy. Through various events and initiatives, the city has also been actively promoting the dissemination and development of design culture.

The design revolution in Turin has transformed the city from an industrial center into a creative hub, attracting designers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. At the same time, Turin's design and development strategy has been a source of inspiration for many cities experiencing the economic crisis
