Inclusive Design with Everyone
与市民共创的包容性设计
Abstract
Detroit was named the "City of Design" by UCCN in 2015. Prior to this,
Detroit was a bankrupt automotive industrial city. In its urban revitalization
efforts, Detroit is placing hope in design to help establish a more livable city.
Detroit has been driving development around inclusive design, aiming
to become a leader in this field. This includes three key strategies: talent
cultivation, investment encouragement, and policy designation. Under these
strategies, the city has been promoting the local development of design
through various means. For instance, it has taken proactive measures to help
businesses fully utilize design to enhance their brand competitiveness. It has
also organized Design Month to showcase local design works, strengthen
exchanges with the international design community, and promote local
residents' exposure and understanding of design. Additionally, Detroit has held
design competitions and other events to provide local designers and residents
with opportunities to participate in urban construction.
On its journey to revitalize the city and become a City of Design, Detroit has
emphasized the implementation of inclusive design. This has not only enabled
it to steadily progress on the path of sustainable development, but has also
successfully reshaped its positive image in people's hearts.
