Design Management as a City’s Development Approach
创意管理下的城市升级
Abstract
As the capital of South Korea, Seoul transformed from ruins into an
international metropolis in a short period after World War II. Following the
financial crisis, Seoul's development strategy shifted towards becoming a
creative city. In 2010, Seoul was recognized as the "World Design Capital" by
WDO and also inducted into the "City of Design" by UCCN in the same year.
By integrating design with culture and basing its development on creative
management, Seoul has undergone a comprehensive transformation into a
sustainable city focused on enhancing the quality of life and urban identity.
Firstly, Seoul has integrated design into urban planning and policy-making,
providing strong support for the living quality and the environment of its
citizens. The comprehensive implementation of the Universal Design Policy
ensures that all citizens can enjoy a safe and convenient urban environment,
laying a solid foundation for Seoul's inclusive development.
Simultaneously, Seoul actively promotes and disseminates design culture,
which not only strengthens its image and influence on the international
stage, but also greatly boosts the development of the local design industry.
Furthermore, through a series of urban renewal and innovative projects, such
as the renovation of Dongdaemun Plaza and the hosting of Seoul Design
Week, Seoul has injected new vitality into the city and created countless
development opportunities.
With its unique design philosophy and development path, Seoul has
gradually emerged as a livable, inclusive, and innovative international
metropolis.
