Abstract
San Diego and Tijuana, situated north and south of the U.S.-Mexico border
respectively, showing strong vitality in the fields of economy, culture and
design. Design schools and institutions in San Diego, USA, have produced
countless outstanding designers for the city and continue to promote design
innovation and development. While in Tijuana, Mexico, relies on its profound
handicraft tradition and broad international vision to show its unique design
style.
In 2021, these two border cities will work together to join WDO as World
Design Capital of 2024. This innovative collaboration undoubtedly promises
a more prosperous and vibrant future for both cities and the entire USMexico
border region. And this recognition also highlights their outstanding
achievements in the field of design and the immense potential for cross-border
cooperation. The design cooperation between the two cities is not only an indepth
exploration of design art, but also an important deepening of crossborder
cooperation and cultural exchanges. This cooperation model not only
challenges the limitations of traditional national boundaries, but also provides
new ideas and directions for future borderless cooperation.
