Abstract

Kortrijk is a city in the West Flanders province of Flanders, Belgium. It has a long history of development in the flax industry, but wars and economic turns have forced the textile industry to constantly integrate and upgrade. These transformations have enabled Kortrijk to become a city with vibrant small and medium-sized design enterprises, exhibiting high resilience and competitiveness. Nowadays, one-third of the top 100 manufacturing enterprises in Belgium are located in Kortrijk. Kortrijk joined UCCN as "City of Design" in 2017, a title that demonstrates the positive impact of Kortrijk's design and design thinking, sparking a series of creative initiatives. In the future, Kortrijk aims to continue expanding the influence of design and promoting various creative activities and collaborative projects. Kortrijk leverages the power of design as an anchor, fully leveraging the design strength of "small-scale clusters". Through the construction of a design network, it has united numerous designers and design enterprises, empowering residents' lives and urban development.
