Design-Driven Local Cultural Innovation and Development
Abstract
Since its opening as a port in the 1860s, Kobe has actively absorbed foreign
culture and formed an open, diverse and innovative city. Design has played
a key role in the development of Kobe, not only promoting post-disaster
reconstruction, but also attracting tourists by creating unique landscapes,
promoting the development of the cultural tourism industry, and penetrating
into the daily lives of citizens to improve the quality of life.
In order to fur ther promote the modernization and sustainable
development of the city, Kobe joined UCCN as "City of Design" in 2008 and
implemented the "Design City Kobe" strategy to use design as the core driving
force of urban development. This strategy emphasizes citizen participation
and co-creation, making full use of Kobe’s unique geographical, cultural and
industrial resources to inject new vitality into the city.
Kobe also attaches great importance to the cultivation of creative power.
Through platforms such as the Kobe Design Creative Center, the Kobe Biennale
and KIITO:300, Kobe has nurtured a wealth of creative power and talent. These
platforms not only provide opportunities for creative talents to showcase
their talents, but also promote communication and cooperation between
different fields. Through these measures, Kobe has created a strong creative
atmosphere, which will continue to promote the progress and development of
the city and inject more vitality and potential into Kobe's future.
