Constructing the Value of the City by Design
以设计为核心的城市价值观
Abstract
Dundee, located in eastern Scotland, was honored as the "City of Design"
by UCCN in 2014. This city boasts a rich tradition of creativity and design, having
been a significant hub for Scottish design and manufacturing as early as the
19th century.
Dundee actively integrates design principles and methodologies into
municipal services and city development strategies. It also supports local
innovative enterprises through training programs and other forms of
assistance. Simultaneously, Dundee is actively blending traditional culture
with design to better preserve and pass on local narratives. Since becoming
a UCCN City of Design, it has established design-centric city values and
assisted the Scottish government in developing service design standards and
guidelines for other cities.
To raise residents' awareness of design, Dundee hosts Design Month
annually and established the &A Design Museum, the first design museum
outside of London. Furthermore, Dundee actively listens to the voices of its
citizens through various means to respond in urban design.
Through developing design, Dundee has enhanced its competitiveness,
creating a vibrant and sustainable city with a unique design philosophy
