Designing a Blueprint of Hopes
设计充满希望的蓝图
Abstract
Baku joined UCCN as "City of Design" in 2019. As the capital and largest city
of Azerbaijan, Baku is not only the scientific, cultural, and industrial hub of the
country, but also an undisputed source of creativity in the region. The presence of
numerous large institutions with their headquarters in the city further
underscores its importance at both national and regional levels.
The perfect fusion of Baku's ancient architecture with modern and futuristic
designs has injected a continuous stream of vitality into the city. Baku has
propelled the rapid development of its cultural and tourism industries through
masterpieces such as the Heydar Aliyev Center. By organizing events like
conferences, the Azerbaijan Fashion Week, international architecture exhibitions,
and international furniture exhibitions, Baku has provided a platform for designers
to exchange knowledge, learn from each other, and strengthen international
cooperation and ties.
Although the oil refining industry is Baku's primary sector, with the sustained
productivity of oilfields providing a solid economic foundation for the city, Baku
has not rested on its laurels. The city is gradually recognizing the immense
potential of the creative economy and viewing design as a core driver of this
economy. Baku is committed to achieving economic diversification, shifting its
focus to non-oil sectors to support the city's long-term sustainable development.
This forward-thinking mindset paints a hopeful and vibrant blueprint for Baku's
future.
