Abstract

In 2006, Berlin was awarded the title of World Design Capital by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO), becoming the first European city to receive this honor under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. As a city characterized by cultures with diversity and harmony, Berlin is particularly notable for its tolerance of creative freedom among the various World Design Capitals. Driven by the development of its industrial sectors and education, Berlin has become a hub for regional and international design resources. The experimental and socially responsible Berlin Design Week, which focuses on exploring the experimental and socially responsible aspects of design, emerged in 2016. In the post-pandemic era, Berlin Design Week pioneered digital operations, such as live streaming, and has actively explored how design can contribute to structural and developmental changes in the post-pandemic world. Berlin Design Week has consistently led the transformation and development of the global design industry.

It has been proved that with its clear positioning and reliance on local cultural and creative industries and academic resources, Berlin Design Week has always focused on the impact of design on the sustainability of our future life. Today, it has become a feast of avant-garde design concepts with international influence. This article discusses the development direction of Berlin City and Berlin Design Week, with the goal of comprehensively analyzing the path of building a creative digital industry and innovative city.

2006年柏林被联合国教科文组织授予“设计之都”称号，成为该网络下欧洲第一个“设计之都”。作为多元文化和谐共生的城市，柏林对于创作自由的包容在众多“设计之都”中也较为突出。在工业产业及相关设计教育发展的带动下，这座城市有了丰富的地区性及国际性设计资源，而聚焦于探索设计的实验性和社会责任的柏林设计周也在2016年应运而生。在后疫情时代，柏林设计周更率先进行了“直播”等数位化运营的尝试，并在活动主题设置方面也积极探讨设计如何为后疫情时代世界的结构和发展做出贡献。发展至今，柏林设计周始终在引领国际设计行业的转型发展。
