Abstract
During China's economic transformation over the past decades, design has played a crucial role in driving the upgrading of manufacturing industries. Guangzhou Design Week was created in the context of the industrial upgrading of the PRD region to drive the design industry and business development in Guangzhou and the surrounding cities. Guangzhou Design Week was first held in 2006 under the auspices of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, and has since become one of the major annual exhibitions in the PRD region. The exhibition venues are located in three major exhibition halls in the vicinity of Guangzhou, and these business-focused exhibition areas cater to the needs of people looking for design, materials and business opportunities. By integrating quality design industry resources from home and abroad, Guangzhou Design Week allows design and commerce to promote and integrate with each other. During the event, in addition to organising design exhibitions with a strong industrial trade impact, Guangzhou Design Week also launches various design competitions and awards in conjunction with the government, corporate brands, design agencies and the media, in order to promote more outstanding designers. After more than a decade of development, these events and awards have become an important platform for Chinese designers to exchange ideas and showcase their design works with designers from other countries, and Guangzhou Design Week has become a comprehensive commercial design week with sustainable influence in China.

在中国过去数十年的经济转型历程中,设计在推动制造业产业升级方面起着至关重要的作用。广州设计周便是在珠三角地区产业升级的大背景下应运而生,以带动广州及周边城市的设计产业和商业发展。广州设计周于2006年在广州市政府的主导下首次举办,此后成为了珠三角地区重要的年度会展活动之一,展览场地分布在广州市内相近的三大展馆里,这些以商贸为核心的展区满足了人们看设计、选材料、找合作商机等多种需求,是商业贸易气息很浓厚的平台。广州设计周通过整合国内外优质设计产业资源,让设计与商业相互促进、融合发展。活动期间,除了举办具有较强产业贸易影响力的设计展会以外,广州设计周还联合政府、企业品牌、设计机构、媒体等发起了多种设计赛事和奖项,以此推广更多优秀的设计师。历经十几年发展,这些赛事和奖项已经成为中国设计师与各国设计师交流创意、展示设计作品的重要平台,广州设计周也已成为了中国具有持续影响力的综合性商业设计周。
