Abstract


Whanganui, located on the southwest coast of New Zealand's North Island, is a city rich in artistic heritage that combines Maori tradition and European colonial relics. Its unique geographical location and rich natural landscape make it a popular tourist destination for tourists. Local designers draw inspiration from the artistic style and aesthetic concepts of Maori culture to create works that have both traditional heritage and modern aesthetic style. In addition, Whanganui’s profound artistic heritage provides strong support for the construction of a city of design. Design education is booming there, cultivating batch after batch of outstanding designers for the city. As a city of design, Whanganui skillfully combines tradition and modernity, nature and humanity, showing a unique urban charm.

In 2021, Whanganui’s creativity, innovative spirit, cultural integrity and artistic heritage earned Whanganui recognition as City of Design by UCCN. Since then, Wanggunui has actively utilized the UCCN resources to establish connections and exchange experiences with other cities. It helps Wanggunui continue to attract global attention with its unique design style and rich cultural heritage, showcasing its outstanding achievements and unlimited potential in the field of design.
